Bring Your Production to Sodankylä – 2026 Incentive Now Open!

The purpose of the Production Incentive is to encourage film and audiovisual productions to choose Sodankylä as a filming location. The incentive aims to strengthen the vitality and attractiveness of the municipality and increase positive impacts on local employment, entrepreneurship, tourism and services. Productions also increase Sodankylä’s  visibility both nationally and internationally.

The Sodankylä Production Incentive is a cash rebate. The municipality reimburses productions for 10% of eligible and paid production costs incurred in Sodankylä, excluding VAT. An additional 5% rebate may be available for eligible costs incurred outside the peak tourism season (the high season is from 1 December to 31 March). The minimum grant amount is €2,500.

Applications are assessed by the municipality’s Vitality Services based on the municipality’s general grant criteria and the conditions of the Production Incentive. More detailed terms and conditions can be found at the end of this article (only in Finnish).

Particular attention is paid to the production’s local economic impact, employment impact, visibility and positive effects on the municipality’s image, as well as the use of local expertise and services. The production must support the values of the Municipality of Sodankylä: nature, community and courage.

Applications are assessed before a decision is made, and the Production Incentive is a discretionary form of support.

The incentive is discretionary and is granted and paid subject to the budgetary appropriations available. Please note that the payment period runs from 1 December to 30 November. Costs incurred in December are counted towards the following year’s costs. Payment applications are processed and paid during December.
